The Illinois Department of Public Health requires that all food service establishments that prepare and serve food to have a certified food service manager on the premises at all times food is being handled.

In order to receive this Food Service Sanitation Manager Certification (FSSMC) from the state of Illinois, the employee must take an approved 8 hour training course.

Our course is approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health for this mandatory certification. Topics covered include: Principles of Food Safety, Foodborne Illness, Food Safety Education, Facilities and Equipment, Integrated Pest Management and Food Safety Regulations.

You must pass the exam with a grade of 75% or better in order to be eligible to receive your certificate from the Illinois Deparment of Public Health. You may retake the exam up to two additional times if a passing score is not achieved.

The training provides food handlers with the knowledge and skills they need to safely handle foods for human consumption. Successful completion of the program assures food managers, regulators and trainers that the certificate holder has completed a basic course in food safety.

To be awarded the Certificate of Completion, an individual must complete the training course and pass the 40-question multiple-choice assessment with a 70% of higher. You may retake the assessment as many times as needed if a passing score is not achieved. The Certificate of Completion is valid for 3 years, at which time candidates must again take the course.
